Install
Frenfall needs Daggerfall Unity 1.1.1 with the Daggerfall game files, the Frenfall mod, and 42 mods from Nexus in the versions the server takes. The server checks your mods, their versions, their load order and their settings when you log in.
Step by step
- Daggerfall Unity. Install Daggerfall Unity 1.1.1 and point it at the Daggerfall game files, as its own setup asks.
- The required mods. Extract the required mods zip straight into
DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets. It holds aModsfolder with every required mod and aFlatReplacementsfolder for Lively Cities. To fetch the mods from Nexus yourself instead, use the list below. - Frenfall. Put dfmp.dfmod in
DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods, replacing any older copy. - Enable the mods. Start Daggerfall Unity, open Mods on the launcher screen and make sure every mod is enabled, Frenfall included. It shows there as DFMP Co-op.
- Log in. At the title screen, enter an account name and a password. A new name creates an account; keep the password, it is the only way into your characters. Frenfall finds the server by itself.
- Restart once. On your first login Frenfall puts your mods in the server's load order and sets their options to the server's, then asks you to restart Daggerfall Unity. After the restart you are in.
- Your character. Pick one of your characters or start a new one. Character names are unique on the server, and Delete a character in the list removes one.
Keeping up to date
Always play with the newest Frenfall. When a new version comes out, download it and replace dfmp.dfmod; the server turns away versions older than 0.9.74 and tells you why. The required mods change less often; when they do, the server names the mod that is missing or out of date, and the zip here always holds the current set.
What you can change
- Looks and controls are yours: key bindings, graphics, the HUD, music and sound.
- Gameplay belongs to the server. Daggerfall Unity's gameplay options follow the server's, and the required mods run with the server's settings. Frenfall sets yours to match and asks for one restart when they differ.
- The console works, except for its cheat commands (god mode, teleports, item spawns, speed, level and the like).
- Optional parts: Unofficial Block, Location and Model Fixes' Textures and Scripting files, and World of Daggerfall's Biomes.
The required mods
Already in the zip. Listed here for anyone who prefers to fetch them from Nexus, in load order from top to bottom.

Each mod's .dfmod files go in DaggerfallUnity_Data/StreamingAssets/Mods. If your load order is off when you log in, Frenfall puts your mods in the server's order itself and asks you to restart once.
When something goes wrong
- The server names a missing or old mod. Install that mod in the version shown on this page, or extract the zip again.
- It asks you to restart. Restart Daggerfall Unity; Frenfall has fixed your load order or mod settings.
- It says your Frenfall is too old. Download the newest
dfmp.dfmodand replace the old one. - It mentions loose world data files. Files in
StreamingAssets/WorldDatachange towns and dungeons for you alone; move them out of that folder. - Lively Cities' townspeople look wrong. Copy its
FlatReplacementsfolder intoStreamingAssets.
